Mother & Home, exhibition by Nafasi Artist-in-Residence Walter Simbo(TZ) curated by Rebecca Corey and Valerie Amani is still up in the Nafasi gallery until 31 May.

Walter Simbo’s exhibition is a beautiful ode to his beloved mother who passed away when he was a young boy. Simbo’s artwork focuses on the important roles mothers play in shaping us into adulthood. His exhibition is his opportunity to thank his mother and all mothers for the selfless and loving way they take care of their children and the community.

Simbo uses both acrylic and oil paints and sometimes beads on canvas in his work, frequently choosing the color blue which he says “often dominates [his] sight because so many things in the world —the oceans, the seas or even the clouds in the sky —are blue. When [he looks] at the clouds and the sea it reminds [him] of the world that we live in after our mothers birth us.”
